David Rose: My Hebrew Friend

Sydney Comedy Festival 7 and 8 May

Bondi Pavilion Theatre - Thurs 7 and Friday 8 May 9pm

“My great grandfather was a world-famous Jewish comedian in the early 20th century. That's him in the photo next to me. He was known to the public as 'Our Hebrew Friend' and performed at the Royal Variety Show and on the BBC. A century later, here I am in the same job, asking the same questions. What does it mean to be a comedian, to be Jewish, and to be both at the same time? A show about legacy, identity and finding your place in the world. “

'Cheekily transgressive... he's an accomplished comic' (Chortle, 2024).

Sydney Chamber Choir

In Paradisum - 23 May at Hume Conservatorium and 30 May St James Church

From the stillness of Baltic and Nordic landscapes to the luminous clarity of Australian skies, this program traces a musical journey through faith, light and love. Sacred works from Estonia, Norway and Sweden — including Arvo Pärt’s Bogoroditse Dyevo, Galina Grigorjeva’s In Paradisum and Edvard Grieg’s Ave Maris Stella — evoke a spirituality that is both intimate and timeless, while Veljo Tormis vividly captures the Estonian light in selections from Autumn Landscapes.

In Paradisum is a celebration of choral sound at its most radiant — where northern serenity meets southern warmth in music of depth and grace. Sat May 23 at 3pm (Hume Conservatorium) and May 30 at 5pm (St James, King Street).
