Milo’s Wake

From 9 to 30 November 2024

Milo’s Wake (written by Margery and Michael Forde) is a tragi-comedy set in an Irish-style pub somewhere in Australia. Milo O’Connor has organised his own wake because he’s a bit down and wants to give people a chance to say something nice about him - and have a bit of a sing-a-long. But, like all wakes, it also reawakens some family tensions AND relives the tragic scene that has affected Milo so badly.

Containing some great Irish songs and a little pub band, the audience are very much a part of this show, which will be presented in our end-of-year dinner theatre style. So it promises to be a fun night out!

THE SPOOKY MEN’S CHORALE: SOUTH COAST TOUR

22 November to 1 December 2024

Men singing songs, some of them are funny (the songs… and the men).

A magnificent, many-headed singing beast, the Spooky Men’s Chorale carves out new territories of mighty sounds, exquisite tenderness, and charming stupidity. Festival favourites in Australia and the UK, they evoke musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming, casually hatted, black-clad appearance. They are just a bunch of blokes, but where they take you will blow your mind. From Bundanoon and Thirroul to Nowra, Bateman’s Bay, Mallacoota, Narooma, Cobargo and Huskisson.

2MBS Fine Music Magazine & 50th Anniversary

October 2024 through January 2025

Radio 2MBS Fine Music – Australia’s first ever stereo FM station - is set to celebrate its 50th birthday. And the festivities will be shared with music-lovers across the globe!

2MBS Fine Music Sydney is Australia’s premier broadcaster of Classical, Jazz, Blues, World, Folk, Ambient and other Contemporary music. Almost entirely powered by volunteers (among them famous musicians, composers, celebrity broadcasters and music aficionados), the station brings fine music for every taste to Sydneysiders on 102.5 FM stereo, nationally and globally via the internet 24/7 (at www.2mbsfinemusicsydney.com), and now - in your pocket, wherever you go, via the 2MBS App (available on the Apple App or Google Play Stores).

In the next weeks and months, the birthday festivities ramp up with treats for all: on-air, on-site and in multi-sensory celebratory events!

The publication of Michael Morton-Evans’ history of the station “The Experiment that Lasted Half a Century” is set for release; a celebratory dinner is planned for 12 December; a retrospective special broadcast airs at 12 noon on 15 December (exactly 50 years to the hour since the first broadcast!); plus an open day (that commemorates the first such event half a century ago) takes place at the St Leonards studios on Saturday 1 February when the public can tour the station, meet the presenters, make an on-air request or record a message!

Special messages from famous musicians and international personalities and musical ‘stings’ have been recorded for broadcast. And an elegant new logo will be unveiled.

Meanwhile, the November edition of the 2MBS Fine Music Magazine continues its monthly artist and composer features (Outback Brass, Gabriel Faure, John Sangster, Laurence Pike) a volunteer spotlight (veteran programmer and lover of sacred music Meg Matthews), the popular music quiz… and the last in our series looking into the issues that artificial intelligence raises for music and music broadcasting. Plus the monthly program guide.

And there’s much more in the offing at 2MBS Fine Music this month and beyond.
